Do you need energy just to keep you moving through life’s daily tasks? What kind of energy it is that are you looking for first. Are you a competitive cyclist needing to shear off seconds in order to place or qualify; are you a distance runner looking for endurance and stamina, a swimmer seeking to shave seconds off his best heat? Are you a competitive athlete or are you just an ‘average-Joe’ praying to make it though the day without falling asleep on the job? You’ll want to obtain your energy from an appropriate energy source and apply it the best way you need it.

There are many products on the market that claim quick energy and fast-fixes. The majority of these products come in the form of processed caffeine, sodium and many different forms of stimulants and fillers. Keep in mind that you can also derive the needed energy by making some choice lifestyle changes.

If you think about it, a lot of these energy boosters or so-called enhancers actually come from the fats and proteins that are already contained in your body. The energy in your body is also drawn from amino acids and from all the fuel, (calories) that we can obtain from the food that we eat. Once you consume food for fuel, your body processes those nutrients and then converts it into energy.

Just by making a few changes in your standard way of living you can generate much needed energy that you may have never thought was possible. Some of these lifestyle changes will obviously take some work and commitment but a good way to start is by inspecting your pantry and refrigerator and looking at the foods you are eating every day. Countless people have a distorted notion of what calories really are, what they do for us and how much we should be consuming. Most of us take view of all calories as rogues and little desperados that bury themselves in our food in order to make our clothes stretch tightly on our bodies. NOT! The calories contained in the food that we consume are a magnitude and power force of energy for us! Carbohydrates can be your friend or foe. Those carbs rating high on glycemic index will give you some quick energy however you will come crashing down. Try more complex carbs along with lean protein and veggies for a more even sustained energy. Incorporate sensible quantity of Olive oil, Omega 3s and mono-unsaturated fats, (which are the “good” fats). So concentrate on eating a healthier diet full of lean proteins, fresh veggies, fruits and of course whole grains.

Exercise! One of the best ways to hone in on that energy is to get moving! This is a great way to get that metabolism moving in a different direction. Get rested! Start with getting enough sleep for yourself. You’re low on your energy levels and you’re feeling worn out and drained… get into the habit of getting to bed early. Aspire to develop good REM sleep and get at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night. A well rested person who gets plenty of good sleep will be energized and feel his energy level at optimum.
